2A Bug List

1.      During the late-night hours (any time after 10pm), the McDonalds on Newberry road over by Oaks Mall takes forever to get my order completed. On average it takes them 15+ minutes.
·        This is probably due to the fact that they are short staffed during the late-night hours since their business is significantly slower during the late hours of the day. There is no need for them to be fully staffed during these times because aren’t as many customers.

2.      During UF Men’s Basketball game check in’s, they only have one body scanner running at a time for the student section entrance. Making the process take a long time.
·        This is probably a safety thing. If they focus solely on one machine they can be extremely accurate with their searches. This way they know for sure that the entire arena is safe.

3.       At the Tax Collectors Office on Clark Butler Blvd, they do not have any set area for the line to start early in the morning for people to line up at before they open.
·        This is probably only practical for about a half hour before they open throughout the week. The number of people that would require a line outside the door during regular business hours would be very minimal.

4.      The last three times I’ve ordered food from UberEATS the driver has forgotten at least one of the items that I ordered.
·        I don’t know if this is just the driver’s inability to check the order before they leave the restaurant, or the restaurant employees didn’t check the order to make sure everything was made and put into the bag. Either way, the negligence lies in one of the two parties.

5.      The BP gas station on SW Archer road doesn’t accept my debit card when I attempt to purchase gas from the pump.
·        It just might be that this gas station uses a different type of card reader than other gas stations in the area. This also could just be a precaution for the safety of my bank account. Since you need to put in your pin number to pay for gas on a debit card maybe this gas station feels its safer to either swipe a credit card or go inside to pay for your gas if you have a debit card.

6.      After about 20 minutes into the UF Gymnastics meet last Friday. The usher would not allow me and my roommate to sit in a particular section, even though the meet had already started, and the likelihood of those seats being purchased is low.
·        These seats were in a priority section of the arena and cost money for fans to sit in them. It would not be right for students to sit in them for free when someone else sitting next to me had to pay about $10 for that seat, especially if they sell that seat and someone does come up and claim it.

7.      When I went shopping at the Walmart over in Butler Plaza, there is not enough self-checkout stations for there to supply the demand of people that prefer to use that over the traditional checkout stations.
·        They are obviously in the process of updating this trend. They rarely open the other traditional stations anymore, so this definitely seems like the direction that Walmart is going based on the trends of the modern customer at Walmart.

8.      At Southwest Rec, every time I attempt to use the hand scanner it never works for me and I have to swipe in at the front desk.
·        The system probably just doesn’t accept my hand compared to the rest of the patrons. It seems to work fine for everyone else. I could have just programmed my hand incorrectly into the system when I originally had it programmed.

9.      At Splitz Bowling Center, the pinsetter machines on most of the lanes get jammed or broken whenever we are in the middle of bowling.
·        This typically happens when a pin or a ball gets stuck in the back of the machine which causes the machine to reset itself. This is a fluke error that isn’t supposed to happen all the time. Sometimes this just happens and there is no way to prevent it.

10.   At the Burger King on Newberry Rd, there have been multiple occurrences where they have forgotten to give me items that I ordered.
·        This was probably just due to the negligence of the employee on duty. It shouldn’t be hard to count how many items are in the bag to know if everything is in there. However, there is no checks and balances when it comes to giving food to the customer. There should be but I don’t think there is because this wouldn’t be an issue if there was.

11.   When I go to Buffalo Wild Wings at Oaks Mall, it’s very annoying when the servers forget to wipe off the table before we are seated.
·        The server or busser was probably busy and just didn’t remember to wipe off the table before letting the hostess know that the table was open again. This was just a simple lapse in judgment that can easily be fixed in the future.

12.   When I order Pizza Hut delivery, the last few times I’ve ordered from them the pizza was 15+ minutes late and was stone cold.
·        The driver probably was given three or four orders to be delivered at one time. I could have just been the last order in a string of orders. This could have been the reason for the order being cold by the time it got to me. An easy way to fix this problem is to send the drivers out on a max of two deliveries per run

13.   At the Red Robin over at Oaks Mall added pickles to my burger when I specifically told my server to double check that there wasn’t any on it, but lone behold there were pickles on my burger.
·        The server probably just forgot to tell the cooks or forgot to put that request in the POS system when she put my order into the kitchen. Usually, restaurants are very sensitive to special food requests because food allergies are a very serious thing and can be detrimental to the company’s business if someone got hurt or sick from their food. This was probably just a case of negligence on the part of the server.

14.    At the Starbucks on Archer, I find it really annoying when they ask for my name for my order. I would rather they give me a number instead of me giving out my personal information.
·        They probably ask for your name because the customer will be more likely to answer and come get their order quicker when they hear their name instead of a random number. I get that people want to keep some confidentiality and also the number also eliminates the confusion if multiple share the same name.

15.   Splitz Family Fun Center Bowling Alley over on Newberry Rd has the most random hours that are not consistent from day to day. I never know when they are open and when they are closed
·        The late-night hours that this alley operates at might be the cause for their hours to be so weird. However, I have seen bowling alleys open a standard time every day so it’s extremely weird for them to open at different times every day. It would be better for business if they had continuity when it came to there hours.

16.   At the Applebee’s on 13th Street, my roommate and I ordered an appetizer portion of boneless wings one night. It ended up taking them 40 minutes for them to bring them to our table.
·        The restaurant could have been really busy that night or they could have been working in a new cook which could explain the increased wait time when it comes to a simple food order as a small order of chicken wings.

17.   At the Publix over in Butler Plaza, it can be kind of annoying when the baggers automatically assume that I need them to take my cart to my car without me asking them too. I know it’s a good gesture, I will ask for it if I want it.
·        This is just a nice gesture that they offer for people that wish to have assistance loading their groceries into there car. Not everyone wants this service but that doesn’t mean they should get rid of it altogether. They just might want to change it so they don’t automatically assume I want it.

18.   At the McDonalds on Archer Rd, it always seems like the ice cream machine is always broken whenever I attempt to go and get an ice cream sundae.
·        They use their ice cream machine for a lot of different items on their menu. It probably goes through a lot of wear and tears throughout the week. It is bound to break down on occasion especially when it is used as frequently as you’d expect.

19.   At the Burger King on Newberry Road, when I order any of their products I typically ask for some sauces for my fries or nuggets. However, they end up only giving me one sauce which for me is never enough but every time I ask for more than one they give me attitude about it.
·        Because the sauces are free they probably have a policy that prohibits them the ability to give me multiple sauces for one single item. It would cost them a lot of money to constantly supply their locations with sauces if we could have as many as we wanted.

20.   It’s crazy how the Lego company has such a huge price increase they have on their toys even when their actual size might be considered pretty small in comparison.
·        Obviously they are trying to make as much money as possible. Their product has incredible margins that allow them to pull in a lot of profit. Just would be nice if they didn’t try and take all the money out of my wallet when I go out and try and buy my brother a birthday gift of a Lego that doesn’t cost me $25.

This experience is one I will never forget. This assignment was both a challenge but also really eye-opening. It’s crazy how we don’t see the world more objectively like you do in this assignment. I had a lot of trouble just coming up with 10-15 let alone 20 examples. Businesses aren’t meant to have things that bug the customer. They probably wouldn’t be in business very long if customers were constantly voicing displeasure in the service if that was prevalent. I know for me personally I don’t have a hard time voicing my opinions, but this was surprisingly difficult because many of the businesses I go to don’t have a flaw that annoys me enough for it to be memorable. So even recalling past experiences just for this assignment was probably the one thing that helped me get to the 20 bug minimum.

  1. Cameron,

I enjoyed reading through your post. You seem to have a used a very experience-oriented approach to document your bugs and go above and beyond in providing context. After reading your post, it was very easy to me to understand the problems you were presenting. The only thing I would change is the font size and padding: the font it is too small and hard to read; the padding for the “why” is confusing. I would rely on sections and/or headings and use a bigger font to make it clearer. Last, your reflection about businesses bugging customers was spot-on. Great job overall!

  2. Hi Cameron,

Greta job on your bug list. I like how your list is specific to Gainesville. It makes things very relatable for those of us who are on campus at UF studying. I too had a very difficult time making this bug list. One thing I did not like about this assignment was how I was constantly looking for the negative. I try to be a positive person, but I found myself focusing on things that bothered me. This made me realize that some things are not worth getting worked up over. Some times you just have to take things one at a time and be grateful for the little things.
