12A Figuring Out Buyer Behavior

Based on the three interviews I conducted I’ve found that need becomes the most frequent when the customer is aware of their financial situation. They would only find the need necessary if they had awareness about how much they were spending on food when they go to sporting events and concerts. However, as my interviewees continued to talk about the need they began to realize that if they cut back on some of that excess spending that comes with purchasing overpriced food from the typical concessions’ vendors in and around the stadium then they would have more money to spend on other things that would be more beneficial to them in the long run. So, as I began discussing the idea of opening a small food truck that gave good food at an accommodating price their eyes began to widen. Thinking of how much they could save on these events that they frequently attended would not only benefit their financial state but also allow them to attend more concerts/sports games with the money they would save by not using the typical vendors. I think based on all the information I’ve gained from this process I need to make it clear to my customers the affordability aspect of my truck. That seems to be the one aspect that will automatically garner the attention I need to increase the sales for my truck.

  1. Cameron,

You seem to have learned some good insights from your interviewees that will certainly help you craft a more refined offer and better product. I think your blog post could be improved by defining your segment better: it is not clear what segmentation criteria you used to select your interviewees. Furthermore, you do not go into much detail about the interviewees themselves either. You seemed to suggest they might have some financial struggles, but it is difficult to understand how your product would help them without understanding your segment in context. Last, some advice on mechanics: your sentences are too long and lacking punctuation marks – your third sentence goes has one comma in 63 words. In any case, I think your insights are well-aimed, you just need to give your readers more context.

  2. Hey Cameron,

In my experience, this interview process in particular offered a lot of insight as to what needs to be more polished and it seems you were able to find this as well. I definitely think the financial situation of all customers in any business venture should be taken into careful consideration. In your case, I think the food truck idea is a great one, especially on game days when people are on the prowl for something to eat and at an affordable price. Nice work!
