15A Figuring Out Buyer Behavior #2

  •        Summary of Interviews

Based on the three interviews that I’ve obtained for this assignment there are definitely some clear elements to products in this space that are huge determining factors when it comes to buyer behavior. One of the common threads that were brought up numerous times throughout the interviews was the quality of the food is better than that of the vendor options offered inside the stadiums. They told me some of their horror stories of how terrible their experience was with some of the concession stands that they’ve experienced while attending sporting events. They’ve seen food under heat lamps while they stood in lines for about twenty minutes. I don’t know about them, but I would not have stood in line any longer if I had seen these food practices at a vendor I was literally minutes away from buying from. Another element that seemed to play a major role in the buying process for these interviewees was the overall cost and affordability of the food in relation to the overall quality. They all agreed that they would be willing to pay more than normal for something that was freshly made and had the same quality of ingredients as restaurants. Finally, another major take away from the interviews was the importance of popularity and marketing, which is something that I didn’t initially see as an important value at least at the early stages. All three of them would be more inclined to try an alternative option if there was a positive buzz around the food or if their friends suggested it to them.
  • Conclusions from the Interview process

The three main factors that came up during the interviews was quality, cost, and popularity amongst their peers. These three aspects of the product have to be at the forefront of the business if it is going to succeed. The purchase decisions of these interviewees follow these same three effects. If any or all of these are not present the product will not be favorable to consumers. They will take their money to the same old vendors that have been taking their money for the longest of time. I think the biggest challenge my opportunity would have to face is convincing customers to come to the truck, because once they try the food and get to experience the brand that will lead to the popularity buzz that is needed by the consumers to try the product. Overall I am very pleased with the information I’ve obtained from this process and I can’t wait to see what other information I can obtain with further interviews.

  1. It's interesting to determine what motivates people to buy and what criteria they follow when deciding what and when to buy. My findings from my interviews overlap with the results you concluded on, and I found that quality and price almost work together in determining the value of something and that people will pay a little more when they know exactly what they're receiving. I also found that peer pressure or an outside influence play into many peoples purchasing behavior because we live in the age where everyone wants to be like someone else. An interesting response that one of my interviewees gave me was that he takes a product or service's learning curve into consideration when buying something, so he'd rather buy something he knows how to use already rather than something he has to adapt to and learn how to use.

  2. hi there,
Food is a hard subject. Many people are very sensitive to their food and when/how it is served to them. It also can be dangerous if guidelines are not followed and customers end up sick from the consumption of your food. Your idea is a great one, but will take very careful planning and executing.

  3. Hey Cameron!

My entrepreneurial opportunity also involves food so I can definitely see where the aspect of quality comes in to play. It is interesting to understand how we always want our food as quick and accessible as possible while also hoping for a good, quality meal in the process no matter where we are; including sporting events. As your finings concluded, price also goes hand-in-hand with this and I think that it is more present when one outweighs the other. It will be a challenge to sort out out the mechanics regarding a quality yet affordable experience. Keep up the good work!
